Pyrrhonism, an ancient Greek school of skepticism founded by Pyrrho of Elis, espoused a philosophy where doubt and suspended judgment were central tenets. The Pyrrhonist philosophers, who followed Pyrrho’s teachings, aimed to achieve ataraxia — mental tranquility and suspension of judgment on the truth of non-evident propositions and beliefs. Their approach was distinct in its radical commitment to skepticism, arguing that certainty about knowledge is unattainable and that one should withhold judgment to achieve peace of mind.
